Original pre-production concept painting for 2001: A Space Odyssey

This early design painting of the Odyssey is accomplished in pencil, pen & ink, and gouache on 22" x 25,5" illustration board and features a concept of the ship with some elements of the final version present (the command module, slender lenght) as well as others whoch were altered for production. In vibrant color, the ship is set against a bright nebula flaring up behind it while traveling through space.
