U.S.S. Grissom original model

The U.S.S. Grissom is a Federation of Planets spaceship, and is the only one authorized by Starfleet to approach the planet under quarantine, Genesis. The ship, commanded by Captain Jonathan T. Esteban, carrying on board David Marcus and Lieutenant Saavik, who are in search of Spock. The ship is going to experience a sad end during a meeting with a Klingon Bird of Prey.

The ship is an Oberth Class (named in tribute to the astronautics pioneer Hermann Oberth) consists of a platform supporting a small saucer-shaped section and two engines on the sides. The second part of the vessel is elongated and placed underneath, giving it a rather atypical for a Star Trek Federation starship, but very recognizable.

The model of the USS Grissom was built by Industrial Light & Magic from Nilos Rodis-Jamero's design. The model of the USS Grissom was reused many times in other Star Trek productions, including Star Trek Generation where it appears under the name U.S.S. Pegasus.

The model is 28 inches long.
