LELUN LUMO - OF TOYS AND MEN
Toy Charm presents the relationship between art and play in a major exhibition of the history of toys, design and aesthetics over a period of several hundred years. Toys, photographs and works of art are used to illustrate how play is a fundamental human characteristic, and one of the most important foundations of human culture.
Part of the exhibition of objects is devoted to those legendary manufacturers of toys, such as Märklin of Germany, Mattel of the USA and Lego of Denmark. The exhibit's descriptions of toys and games reflect the society in which they were conceived, and reflect the era's of predominant aesthetic tastes, fashion phenomena and values.
The exhibition is produced by RMN, the Grand Palais and Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, in collaboration with the Art Museum of Helsinki. The exhibition is part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 program.
